Overview
The path to sustainability is far from clear. In fact, it is often a maze of conflicting and competing needs and wants. How do we live within natural limits, while maintaining our standard of living, and enhancing the well-being of our community and quality of our lives? The Georgia Basin Futures Project is a five-year research initiative of the Sustainable Development Research Institute (SDRI) at the University of British Columbia. It combines expert knowledge and considered public opinion to explore pathways to sustainability through the use of emerging digital library/semantic learning networks (GBExplorer) and scenario modeling tools (GBQuest). Together, these online resources help promote a wider and deeper understanding of environmental, social and economic issues in the Georgia Basin region of western Canada, and provide a meansof exploring viable pathways to sustainability (Agenda 21, Chapter 35.12).
